Hi,
I'm Kate, and hank you for taking the time to discover a little piece of my world.
I’ve spent over 25 years as a professional graphic designer, creating everything from brands and packaging to print and large-scale graphics. Working closely with clients from initial ideas through to final production has taught me the importance of listening, communicating and creating work that not only looks beautiful, but works beautifully too.
Surface pattern brings that experience together with my lifelong love of painting, drawing and creating by hand. My collections often begin with something personal — a memory, a place, or one of those little details in nature we might otherwise walk straight past — growing into stories told through colour and pattern.
What excites me most is seeing an idea that began at my desk find its way onto fabric, wallpaper, homeware, apparel or a beautifully made product, becoming part of someone else’s everyday life.

Returning To Art
Creativity has always been part of my life. I grew up painting, drawing and surrounded by the flowers, wildlife and changing seasons of the garden that would later inspire my first surface pattern collection, Garden of Memories. It was there that my instinctive love of colour, pattern and storytelling began.
My fascination with interiors and textiles came early too. While creating bespoke upholstery cushions for luxury garden furniture, I worked every day with beautiful fabrics and became increasingly drawn to the artwork behind them. The idea of one day creating my own never really left me.
After more than 25 years working professionally in graphic design, surface pattern became a natural evolution of my creative practice - bringing together commercial design experience with painting, illustration and a lifelong fascination with colour.
Today, I create distinctive, story-led collections designed to translate beautifully across surfaces - from fabric, wallpaper and interiors to homeware, lifestyle, fashion and children’s products - always with the end product in mind.

Some memories stay with us. Mine become pattern collections.
Every collection begins with something real - a flower, a season, a place or a quiet moment that has stayed with me over the years. Those memories become the starting point for a collection, with each individual pattern capturing a different part of the story.
Everything begins by hand. I paint, draw, print and experiment using watercolour, inks and mixed media until I have a collection of artwork that feels authentic to the memories that inspired it.
Only then do I begin working digitally, developing versatile surface pattern collections for fabric, wallpaper, home décor and lifestyle products.
There is something incredibly satisfying about watching a hand-painted idea evolve into a finished collection.
The best part is seeing it become part of someone else's home.

I love seeing my collections come to life across many different surfaces.
From dress fabrics, upholstery, wallpaper and bedding to stationery, ceramics, giftware, packaging and home décor, I enjoy creating artwork that feels equally at home wherever it appears.
My hope is that the memories that inspired each collection become part of new memories for the people who live with them.
